Storage class (Lagerklasse, LGK)
Also: Lagerklasse, LGK, mixed storage
Definition
The storage class groups hazardous substances according to their hazardous properties, which determines which substances may be stored together and which must be kept apart. The basis in Germany is TRGS 510.
There are 13 storage classes with subclasses, such as 3 (flammable liquids), 6.1 (toxic substances), 8 (corrosive substances) and 10–13 (combustible and non-combustible liquids and solids). The mixed storage table in TRGS 510 shows which classes may be stored together, separately or only with restrictions. The storage class is usually given in section 15 of the safety data sheet.
Further requirements of TRGS 510 concern drip trays, ventilation, access restrictions, quantity thresholds for safety cabinets and storage rooms, and labelling.
