Also: Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances, Technische Regeln für Gefahrstoffe
Definition
The TRGS specify the German Hazardous Substances Ordinance and reflect the state of the art in technology, occupational medicine and hygiene. Anyone who follows them can assume they meet the requirements of the ordinance (presumption of conformity).
The rules are drawn up by the Committee on Hazardous Substances and published by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Important TRGS: 400 (risk assessment), 402 (identifying and assessing inhalation exposure), 500 (protective measures), 510 (storage in mobile containers), 555 (operating instructions), 600 (substitution), 900 (occupational exposure limits) and 910 (carcinogenic substances).
Anyone who deviates from a TRGS must prove that the chosen solution is at least as safe.
