Frequently asked questions
What information must the hazardous substances register contain as a minimum?
The name of the hazardous substance, its classification or information on its hazardous properties, quantity ranges in the company, the work areas in which it is handled and a reference to the safety data sheet (Section 6 (12) GefStoffV).
Do cleaning agents also have to go into the register?
Yes, if they are classified as hazardous – recognisable by the pictogram on the label. The only exceptions are substances whose hazard is so low, given the quantity and use, that no additional protective measures are needed.
Is Excel good enough for the hazardous substances register?
For small inventories, yes. With many substances, several sites and regular updates of safety data sheets, maintenance becomes time-consuming. Software can read safety data sheets with AI and keep the register up to date automatically.
