First aid log (Verbandbuch)
Also: Verbandbuch, accident book, first aid record
Definition
The first aid log documents all first aid given in the company with date, time, injured person, what happened, injury, measures, first aider and witnesses. It is mandatory under Section 24 (6) of DGUV Regulation 1 and must be kept for five years.
The entry proves that an injury occurred during insured work – important if a minor injury later has consequences. Because it is health data, only authorised persons may see it; single sheets or a digital solution with access rights are preferable to a bound book.
The first aid log does not replace the accident report: if someone is unable to work for more than three days, the accident must also be reported to the employers' liability insurance association.
