Accident report (Unfallanzeige)
Also: Unfallanzeige, accident notification
Definition
The accident report is the notification of a workplace or commuting accident to the employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund. It is mandatory if the insured person dies or is unable to work for more than three days – within three days of the employer learning of it.
The legal basis is Section 193 of Social Code Book VII (SGB VII). Fatal and serious accidents as well as mass accidents must be reported immediately, usually by phone. The report is made on the accident insurance institution's form, usually online via its service portal. The works council or staff council co-signs the report, and the injured person can request a copy.
The three days of inability to work are counted without the day of the accident. Regardless of the report, every first aid treatment goes into the first aid log.
