Escape and rescue plan (Flucht- und Rettungsplan)
Also: Flucht- und Rettungsplan, evacuation plan, fire escape plan
Definition
The escape and rescue plan is the graphic notice showing a building's escape routes, emergency exits, assembly points, fire extinguishers and first aid facilities. It is required under the German Workplaces Ordinance if the location, size or use of the workplace makes it necessary.
ASR A2.3 governs escape routes, while ASR A1.3 and DIN ISO 23601 govern the design of the plan: correctly oriented (“You are here”), with a legend, in safety colours and posted in clearly visible places. The plan must be kept up to date and employees instructed on its content; regular evacuation drills are recommended.
Escape routes must be clear at all times – blocked emergency exits are one of the most common defects found during inspections.
Legal basis
