Safety signs (Sicherheitskennzeichnung)
Also: Sicherheitskennzeichnung, safety signage, prohibition signs, mandatory signs, ASR A1.3
Definition
Safety signs comprise prohibition, mandatory, warning, emergency and fire safety signs that identify hazards, duties and escape routes at the workplace. Shape and colour are defined in ASR A1.3 and DIN EN ISO 7010.
Prohibition signs are round with a red border (no smoking), mandatory signs round and blue (wear hearing protection), warning signs triangular and yellow (warning: electrical voltage), emergency signs rectangular and green (emergency exit), fire safety signs rectangular and red (fire extinguisher). Signs are needed where hazards cannot be avoided by technical or organisational measures – the risk assessment shows where.
Signage also includes floor markings for traffic routes and storage areas as well as the labelling of hazardous substance containers and pipelines.
