Service hours calculator: basic support by safety specialist and company doctor under DGUV Regulation 2
Enter employees and support group – the calculator shows the annual basic support by the occupational safety specialist and company doctor under the German DGUV Regulation 2, including the minimum shares.
As of October 2026
Follows from your company's economic sector in the annex to DGUV Regulation 2.
Each accident insurance institution puts the revision into force itself, e.g. BGN on 1 Jan 2026, BGW on 1 Jun 2026.
Basic support per year
Employees counted: 80120hours
24hours
24hours
72 hours are split between safety specialist and company doctor as needed.
Up to 40 hours of this may be provided digitally once the company is known.
Company-specific support comes on top. You determine its scope yourself based on specific occasions – there is no fixed formula.
The calculator shows minimum values under the regulations and rules listed. It does not replace the risk assessment and is not legal advice – the requirements of your accident insurance institution are decisive.
How the calculator works
- 1
Count employees
Part-time staff count proportionally: up to 20 hours a week as 0.5, over 20 to 30 hours as 0.75, above that in full. The annual average is decisive.
- 2
Determine the support model
With the revised DGUV Regulation 2, which the accident insurance institutions have been putting into force since 2026, simplified support without fixed hours applies to companies with up to 20 employees – previously the limit was 10. Above that, standard support with basic and company-specific support applies.
- 3
Calculate basic support
The service time for basic support per employee and year is 2.5 hours in support group I, 1.5 hours in group II and 0.5 hours in group III – for the occupational safety specialist and company doctor together.
- 4
Observe the minimum shares
Each of the two disciplines covers at least 20 per cent of the basic support. Under the previous version, at least 0.2 hours per employee also applied. In the revised version, up to one third of the basic support may be provided digitally once the company is known.
- 5
Add company-specific support
Company-specific support comes on top; the company determines its scope based on specific occasions – such as new installations, alterations or particular hazards. There is no fixed formula for this.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours must a safety specialist spend at the company?
With more than 20 employees, basic support under the revised DGUV Regulation 2 is 2.5, 1.5 or 0.5 hours per employee and year – depending on the support group and for safety specialist and company doctor together. Each discipline covers at least 20 per cent. Company-specific support comes on top.
Which support group does my company belong to?
This depends on your company's economic sector (WZ code), which the annex to your accident insurance institution's DGUV Regulation 2 assigns to a group. Pure office and administrative work often belongs to group III. If in doubt, ask your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund.
When does the revised DGUV Regulation 2 apply?
Each accident insurance institution puts it into force itself – the BGN, for example, on 1 January 2026, the BGW on 1 June 2026. Your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund will tell you which version applies to you.
What applies to companies with up to 20 employees?
Under the revised version, they receive simplified standard support without fixed hours: basic support and occasion-related support. Depending on the accident insurance institution, alternative models are available, such as the competence centre model or the employer model for companies with up to 50 employees.
Must the service hours be documented?
Yes. The occupational safety specialist and company doctor report on their work regularly in writing, and the split of service hours should be agreed. The employers' liability insurance association asks about this during inspections.
