How the calculator works
- 1
First aiders under Section 26 DGUV Regulation 1
With 2 to 20 insured persons present, one first aider is required. With more than 20, it is 5 per cent in administrative and retail businesses and 10 per cent in other businesses, rounded up. What counts is the number of people present at the same time – which is why the calculator works per shift.
- 2
Fire wardens under ASR A2.2
As a guideline, 5 per cent of employees is usually sufficient, rounded up and at least one person. More are needed with increased fire risk, many visitors, people with reduced mobility or large premises.
- 3
First aid kits under ASR A4.3
In administration and retail, one small first aid kit is enough for up to 50 employees, in manufacturing and processing up to 20, on construction sites up to 10. Above that, one large kit is needed per started 300, 100 or 50 employees respectively. Two small kits replace one large kit.

Shifts and absences
First aiders and fire wardens must be available in every shift. Also plan for cover during holidays, illness and business trips – the calculator shows the minimum.
