Ordinance on Occupational Health Care (ArbMedVV)

Also: ArbMedVV, Verordnung zur arbeitsmedizinischen Vorsorge

Definition

The ArbMedVV sets out for which activities employers in Germany must arrange occupational health checks (mandatory health care), offer them (offered health care) or allow them on request (requested health care).

A health check (arbeitsmedizinische Vorsorge) is a consultation with the company doctor, with an examination if needed. It serves the early detection of work-related illnesses and individual advice – it is not a fitness-for-work examination. Mandatory health care is a prerequisite for the activity, for example with respiratory protection or noise above 85 dB(A); offered health care must be offered by the employer, but participation is voluntary – for display screen work, for example.

The employer keeps a health care register with the date and reason for each check and receives a certificate from the company doctor confirming participation, not the result.
