Contractor management (Fremdfirmenmanagement)
Also: Fremdfirmenmanagement, contractor safety, contractor coordination
Definition
Contractor management refers to organising occupational safety when employees of several employers work at one site – such as maintenance companies, cleaning services or construction firms on your premises. The employers must cooperate, coordinate on hazards and brief employees (Section 8 of the German Occupational Safety and Health Act).
The client remains responsible for the hazards of its premises; the contractor for its employees. Proven practices include written safety rules for contractors, a documented briefing before work starts, a coordinator where activities endanger each other (Section 6 DGUV Regulation 1), permits for hazardous work (hot work, entering vessels) and access rules.
Digital visitor management systems handle registration, briefing and records and show at any time who is on site – including for evacuation.
